Welcome to Election 2014!

I haven’t posted since the last election cycle in 2012, mostly because I try to only use this during elections, but I expect that if I get elected I’ll post here between elections, too. I do have a life outside of politics, so I’ve been attending to more urgent matters in my life, but as the election heats up (usually after the primary) and more issues arise to be commented on I will surely be posting more often. I leave my older posts to show my stances on earlier questions and issues as well as consistency and occasionally my ability to grow and change my mind if need be. Hope to hear from you during the election, don’t forget to vote and good luck to all candidates.

Terrorism vs Freedom

Terrorism isn’t about killing people. That’s just an occasional side effect. The purpose of terrorism is power and control through fear/terror. Same as rape, only on a larger scale. When the Patriot Act was enacted the terrorists won. When any restrictive legislation is passed as a reaction to a terrorist threat ‘for our protection’, the terrorists win. When anyone ceases to go about their daily business and puts bars on their minds and hearts, terrorists win. There hasn’t been a successful attack on the US since 9/11, but that’s not because of increased security (as if confiscating nail clippers made us safer!) or expanded surveillance (everybody blinks sometime and no system or person is perfect). We haven’t been attacked because enough of us demonstrated resistance to terrorists, starting with the plane that went down in Pennsylvania on 9/11 and continued with everyone who went to work, out to dinner, shopping, driving…we didn’t cower, we fought back any way we knew, mostly just by continuing our lives. I came home from work that night to my daughter making lists, warming dinner, watching the news and my son almost done cleaning the guns. We didn’t know what was next, but we were going to be ready. It’s our attitude that keeps us free, not our government’s policies.
