Why do only 40% of registered voters turn out to the polls? Is this figure correct? Can we trust it-or the government by extension? How can we make a change? Well, to start with, VOTE!!!. If you don’t you’re not just giving away your right to speak out, you’re allowing others to hire a stranger to sell your rights to the highest bidder. “But there’s no one to vote for…” So run, or back someone you’d like to see win, even if you have to talk them into running. If you’re so inclined, ake advantage of the http://www.azcleanelections.gov or http://www.azsos.gov/election/ sites (it’s there, might as well use it) for some positions, or just run under the $500 exemption rule. Sign up to run and promise not to spend over $500? Yup, sounds crazy, but so is running for office. Just do it, even if you have to be a little more creative than the next guy. At least vote, then let the elected officials know how you feel about whatever subject is before you. That’s what they’re there for, whether you voted for them or not-they still represent YOU. If you voted for them you have a right to put in your 2 cents worth because you hired them. If you didn’t vote for them, they represent you anyway, so you still have a right to let them know how you feel, maybe more, because you wanted ‘the other guy’ anyway. So it doesn’t matter whether you vote for the winner or not, it matters that you vote, and especially that you vote for who you really want to win. How do you think we ended up with this two-party system we have now? If you think politics is interesting now, just think what it’d be like if people really voted the issues and their conscience. If you think politics was dry and boring before, what would happen if you voted for what you really believe instead of who you think everyone else is voting for? We have secret ballots for a reason. No one can come after you for voting for the ‘wrong’ person. No one can threaten you for voting unlike some places where people are threatened if they vote and still show up. What’s wrong with the voters in our country? Shake up the system. Vote. Run. Speak out. Change the system by being part of it.
